A Corner of Our Universe is about a girl named Hattie who lives in the U.S.A. The summer she turned 12 may have well turned her life around. It was the summer Adam came.
When Adam’s ‘school’ closes he comes to stay at Hattie’s Nana and Papa’s house until they can find another ‘school’ for him. Even though Adam has some mental problems, he can still be a perfectly good friend.
When Hattie’s friends call Adam a freak, she wants to cry but she doesn’t. Then the circus comes to town! Hattie desperately wants to take Adam, but he is not allowed to go to the circus. That day at the circus, Hattie makes a new friend, Leila! Her adventures with Leila make her days at the circus fun even without Adam. Then they come up with a plan, to sneak Adam out of the house and into the circus. But when they go on the Ferris wheel Adam has a fit! Is their plan ruined?
Adam and Hattie learn that life is not always perfect and sometimes good things go, even if you don’t want them to. I liked this book because it had friends who stayed friends no matter what.
