Tuck Everlasting is a book about a girl named Winnie. She lives in a town called Treegap. Winnie feels that her parents are overprotective because she is an only child. She has always wanted to run away but is afraid to do so. Her family owns a wood a little down the road from her house. She is curious about it, so she decides to run away to the wood.
When she is there, hiding in the bushes, she sees a boy, Jesse, drinking some water. He sees her so she has to come out of the bushes. When she goes to drink some of the water, Jesse will not let her. She does not understand. Why can't she drink some of the water? As they are arguing, his mother Mae, and his brother, Miles come along. They grab Winnie and stick her on a horse to take her to their house.
They stop after after a little bit and start to tell her a story about the water. If you drink the water in the spring you can never die. Winnie does not know if she can believe them. They say that they will take her home in the morning. When they finally get there Winnie sees that their house is very unorganized, something that she is not used to. It is as whole new world for Winnie. They can eat dinner on the floor and then Tuck, Jesse's father, and Winnie go for a boat ride in a pond right next to their house. Tuck and Weenie have a very serious conversation about why Winnie should keep their secret. The next morning Miles and Winnie go fishing. When they are eating breakfast they hear a knock at the door. Who could it be? Is Winnie going to get home? Can the story about the spring be true?
You know what you have to do to find out.
